The Third Annual
Damn Am
Skateboard Contest
at the 3rd Lair SkatePark in Mpls., Mn.
on June 10th – 12th, 2005

For the third straight year we hosted this event.  It’s run by the boys at the Skatepark of Tampa, with help from all of us here at the 3rd Lair.  We’ve become really good friends with these guys and we’re kind of like cousins now if you will; seeing them only on holidays.  The holidays are skateboard contests and we take turns coming to each other’s parks.

The Damn Am is high-level amateur skateboard contest.  What I mean by that is only riders who have a major skateboard sponsor are allowed into the competition.  You can only be registered by your team manager and he must do it months in advance to get you in.  They don’t even have open registration anymore, something that upset a lot of our local boys and others I’m sure.

The high caliber of skating that went down here this weekend was nothing short of amazing.  Everybody in the contest completely ripped and if you blinked you were guaranteed to miss a big banger.  Between the bowl contest on Friday, the street contest, the dunk tank happenings, and the best trick contest – I don’t know what I had more fun watching.

Standouts this weekend were

Dylan Rieder – he won the contest, but the funny thing is that he almost didn’t make it.  I was supposed to pick him up at the airport and on my way the there I called him just after he should’ve landed.  Here’s how it went – ‘Dylan, its Mark from the 3rd Lair I’m picking you up.’ Dylan says ‘WHAT!!!!, I thought I was flying out tomorrow?!?!?’ I said ‘well your team manager just called and said you were arriving today at 1:30.’  Dylan freaked out a little bit and said he would call me back.  I hated to be the bearer of bad news when he realized he missed his flight.  Fortunately for him, Deluxe kicked down and bought him another ticket.

Adam Dyet – I had a little party at my house on Thursday night for V.I.P.’s and such and this is where I met Adam.  A super nice guy, with tons of energy who likes to party.  We talked him winning the Phoenix Am contest a couple weeks ago and his plans to win the Best Trick Contest which he did!  Much respect to him – he killed it all weekend long.

Local Boys Done GoodJamiel Nowparvar, Mike Munzenrider, Nate Compher and C.J. Tamborino.  They all made finals and represented big for Minneapolis.  A big congratulations goes out to those guys.  All of them skated extremely well and they should be proud – I know I am!
