Go Skateboarding Day
June 21, 2006    at the 3rd Lair SkatePark

In case you do not yet know, Go Skateboarding Day is a national holiday dedicated to the celebration of skateboarding.  For skaters around the world it is a day to unite and participate in the activity that we have all come to love.  The idea is to simply skate.  It does not matter where; you just need to ride that board.

To celebrate this year we decided to have a “free day” at the skate park along with a number of other fun activities.  We gave away free skating all day along with free lessons.  It was our way of saying thanks to the skateboarding community as well as enabling as many people as possible the opportunity to come down and ride.  The following is how it all went down.

9am – Noon - Skateboard Camp
For those signed up for our skateboard camp, skateboarding was bound to happen.  These kids came in bright and early to receive top notch instruction from our camp instructors.  This week we were also fortunate to have Chico Brenes in town as our guest pro.  He was around helping out and skating with the kids, it was a great start to a great day.

Noon – The Doors Open
The local skaters were raring to enjoy their complementary day at the skatepark.  With a lengthy line formed at the door, we knew we were in for a hectic day.  When we opened the doors the kids barged, were wrist banded, and sent into the park to get their skate on.

3pm – The Scavenger hunt
Tuesday night, super late, Swamp Trog, Mulla, and myself, went around our surrounding neighborhood and hid a ton of product to prepare for our Go Skateboarding Day scavenger hunt.  The hunt was scheduled to begin at 3pm and by 1:30pm a line had formed to get the much sought after scavenger hunt clues.  These were the ticket to locating the hidden items.  When 3pm rolled around the clues were handed out and the neighborhood was overrun with skaters, a beautiful sight.

Thanks to all of our sponsors that kicked down for the hunt, especially; ROOTS SKATEBOARDS, Duffs, Element, Tum Yeto, Kayo Corp., Triple 8, and ABC Dist.  The prizes were rad and the kids had a great time.

4:30pm – KRUX Kickflip Challenge - Flat ground Round
At 4:30 we had the first incarnation of our Krux Kickflip challenge.  The goal was to land the most consecutive number of kickflips in a row on flat ground.  A number of kids tried, many not even landing a single kickflip.  When all was said and done our own 3rd Lair manager, Mike Munzenrider, was the champ with 117 kickflips in a row!  Here were the results:

1st Place:Mike Munzenrider 117
2nd Place:      Ian Sherman   90
3rd Place:       Darin Miller64

6pm – KRUX Kickflip Challenge – Variety Round
6pm was the start of our Kickflip Challange variety round.  The goal was to kickflip in/on a variety of obsticles.  The way it worked was if you missed one kickflip, you were out.  Here were the rounds:

Round 1:Flatground
Round 2:Over a deck
Round 3:Off small Launch Ramp
Round 4:Up Small Launch Ramp
Round 5:Quarter Pipe (Kickflip to fakie)
Round 6:Quarter pipe Transfer (Kickflip to fakie)
Round 7:Off Big Launch Ramp

The results were as follows:

1st Place: Ian Sherman (made it through and including round 7)
2nd Place:Dan Crittenden (went out in round 7)

Thanks again to everyone who made this day possible.  It was a ton of fun and I look forward to neext year.

3RD LAIR SKATEPARK & SKATESHOP
ON:
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21ST, 2006

IN HONOR OF ‘GO SKATEBOARDING DAY’ THE 3RD LAIR IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE -

The first annual ‘Go Skateboarding Day’ and the ‘Krux Kickflip Challenge’ at the 3rd Lair SkatePark and SkateShop will be held on Wednesday, June 21st, 2006.  For the first time ever, the 3rd Lair SkatePark will be offering free sessions and free lessons to EVERYBODY – ALL DAY LONG!!.  Doors open at noon and you can sign up for your lesson at the front desk; first come first served.

In addition to the above we will also be hosting the ‘Krux Kickflip Challenge’
and also a ‘Go Skateboarding Day Scavenger Hunt’.

The ‘Go Skateboarding Day Scavenger Hunt’ will begin at 3:00 pm and the ‘Krux Kickflip Challenge' will begin at 6:00 pm.

The ‘Go Skateboarding Day Scavenger Hunt’ will have one area of focus –
Around the 3rd Lair SkatePark neighborhood

We will be hiding skateboard products in this area that will be donated by members of the International Association of Skateboard Companies.  The areas that product will be hidden in are easily accessed most efficiently by mode of skateboard.  Maps of the areas with clues to the products location will be distributed at 3:00 pm at the 3rd Lair SkatePark.  There will be a designated area where the official waiting line will start.  Participants can get in line whenever they want.

The ‘Krux Kickflip Challenge’ is a contest to see who has the most consistent kickflipping abilities.  Here’s how it works: participants will be required to land a kickflip in certain areas of the skatepark in order to make it to the next round.  We start off on the flat, then off the manual pad and it gets harder from there.  The last 2 riders will battle it out head to head and the first one to miss a kickflip loses!  The winner is crowned the champion and will receive a huge amount of prizes, fame and recognition!!!

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006 will be a great day for the skateboarders of Minnesota.  The 3rd Lair is honored to host this event.  Anybody and everybody is invited.  All experience levels welcome – don’t have a board, don’t worry – all rentals are also free this day and it includes: skateboards, helmets, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards.  First come first served.
